What is Personal Freedom?
We journeyed to the nation’s capital to the campus of George Washington University where we asked students and rabbis how they defined personal freedom. Freedom, especially religious freedom, is a concept throughout the Torah that most of the major Jewish holidays revolve around. The architipical holiday of course is Passover, the time of our freedom. It was interesting to hear all of the students’ different concepts and illustrations of freedom and of course, we enjoyed the rabbis explanations and how halacha (Jewish law) which can sometimes feel restrictive can actually be a conduit to personal freedom.
